Lampada — A New Orthodox Calendar App Now Available for iPhone

With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Michael, the Diocese of New York and New Jersey is pleased to announce the release of Lampada — Orthodox Calendar, a new app created by Nektarios (Manny) Montiel, a parishioner here at St. Vladimir Orthodox Church in Trenton, New Jersey.

Designed as a companion for daily Orthodox Christian life, Lampada brings together the Church calendar, daily Scripture readings, fasting guidance, commemorations of the saints, prayers, and other resources in one convenient app.

Among its features are:

  • Daily fasting guidance, including the fasting discipline for each day
  • Epistle and Gospel readings, together with the appointed prokeimenon and patristic commentary
  • Saints and commemorations of the day, with troparia and kontakia
  • A growing prayer book, including morning and evening prayers, prayers at meals, the Hours, and other prayers
  • Home and lock-screen widgets displaying the day's fasting information
  • A private preparation-for-confession section, with notes stored on the user's device
  • The Fasting Kitchen, offering recipes appropriate to the day's fasting discipline

The app's calendar data, readings, and commemorations follow the liturgical calendar of the Orthodox Church in America.

Lampada is free to download and use. An optional premium subscription expands the Fasting Kitchen with additional meal-planning and recipe features.

Lampada is currently available for iPhone running iOS 17 or later. An Android version is planned.
